Update: 3:38am. I'm dead, so is theo. Page is up more or less, though not accessible, as we need to finalize moving it from test server to zt.com.

I'm going to bed, I have to wake up for work in ~4 hours.

Update #2: Well, almost midday and I'm at work. I'm getting page more or less set up, uploading some renders for you to look at, but Theorem haven't woke up yet (lucky bastard doesn't have to work this week I think), and I need him to restrict access to some page parts.

Well, back to work. I need coffee...

Yay! Jahajazz appeared! And etix! And Frost! Old members are swarming faster than I can drink up a 5l keg-o-beer (which I just bought and opened ;)). Anyways, comp is formatted, it's cleaned and ready to work. Now I need to launch my lappy for ~15 mins to copy some non-ekaiyo code (which is backed up on svn server) I've worked on which might help me with the editor.

Theo's ABE v2.0 (which is battle engine updated to Diamond/Pearl standards) is coming along pretty nice as well. JB still haven't created the website, but it's apparently only matter of time ;). Well, today I plan to add vertices selectable with circle or square (much like in any terrain editor).

Remember, if anybody doesn't know, we moved our chan to irc server irc.afternet.org, #pokegeeks.

Happy z00t'o'clock!

I don't have the cash to send my lappy to Asus, so I confiscated my girls comp, am backing stuff up now, will reformat it, install my programming suite and start coding away, as I am online now. JB is making new website, Theo is coding mechanics, mooms is making gfx, and I'll continue working on level editor. Finally, we're progressing :)

We still miss couple members (jahajazz, where are you?), but will get up from ashes like phoenix. Speaking of phoenixes and stuff like that:

No one knows - ManTis
Well, this moment had to come sooner or later - we've returned from dead, and we're working on Ekaiyo again. I guess that it would take us bit longer if it wasn't for the XNA contest that made us work hard again. Well, along the way I spilled beer all over my laptop and now I will have to work on my shitty desktop again. I gave it to my girl when I bought the laptop, but a quick format will do wonders ;). Starting 19th of July I'll have nets at home steady enough to allow me for some expansive interaction with you guys - for now I'm communicating only during work hours, which is kinda painful. Theo is already working on new version of mechanics (remember that we've stopped before the DS version was out? we still have mechanics for 3rd gen).

Also, I've bought new domain - www.z00ttheater.com. It'll serve as a joint website for all our projects, of course with Ekaiyo being biggest and baddest of them all.

Hopefully the ASUS won't charge me 500euro for fixing the laptop, there is chance (albeit small) that they will do it within warranty (reason of chance being small is that I've voided warranty severely :P).

Well, let's get back to work, shall we?

Summer Shudder - ManTis
Well, works on game for DreamBuildPlay contest are well along the way - mooms is creating ships for three other races (apart from humans), and I've finished implementing basic camera and movement. If you're curious how are we doing so far, check this link. Well, all now to continue working on shooting. The weird red-blue rectangle in the movie is how standard straight bullets/lasers/rockets would go on a spherical landscape. Since obviously this isn't working very well, I'm figuring out other ways how to make this a playable shooter game.

zomg it's alive! - ManTis
Why hello there fellow lurker. I'm actually surprised you still have faith in this project. Well, so do we. I'm now at Germany and still working, but I'm finally moving out of company flat and into my private one which means I'll be able to get some internets. I'm moving with the 1st of June, so pretty soon. Dunno how much time will it take for me to get internet installed, I hope not so much. mooms and me are still working on the game for XNA contest, and decided to revive the project after the contest is closed (the final date for submission is 2nd of July).

About Ekaiyo itself: tons upon tons of things changed. We've had to redesign it to fit what we can do, and our time schedule. Funnily enough this that the progress on the project will be more steady and we'll be more open to help from within the community. I'm currently using MDX and XNA, and seeing how I like them this means we're switching from OpenGL. This was the biggest step, and unfortunately it has some downside: until the Tao portable framework will be finished, our game will be launchable only on Windows. We've decided to do that, simply because it's better to have one working game on single system than very portable but not working one.

We'll be having grand reopening with the start of July, be sure to drop by.

Quench my thirst with gasoline - ManTis
Woo, after 3 weeks of coding I'm glad that I chose this job style. Now I'm working on tools for games in C# ( C# again, woo!). I bought myself a sweet ass new laptop so I'm developing in parks, in bed, wherever I want. Don't have a stable flat yet, only company-issued one, but at least I was able to *cough* track one open wifi network, and so even though I haven't ordered a net for myself (as this is not my house), I'm still able to roam freely over the nets. Oh joys of technology!

All that aside, me & mooms are constantly working on the XNA contest entry. Maybe I'll even feed you some pictures soon ;). Oh yeah, actually we decided to submit 2 games. One simple and one complicated. We don't know if we'll find the time to finish the big one, so simple comes first.

Well, that's it. My final day in UK is almost finished. I'm going to bed and tomorrow at 8am I'm starting my trip towards Germany. Sorry for not updating, but I had some troubles with my relocation, and couldn't get enough time to get anything done.

Oh yeah, you've heard about Microsoft's XNA contest? Me and mooms are partaking in it - after couple days worth of reading documentation, I'm quite happy with what the platform is and want to try it out.

Next update will be from Germany. See yah!

So... I got the job :DDDDDDDDDDD

I dunno what/how it happened, but I got it. My very first job in the gaming industry! Jesus Christ, I'm happy like you cannot imagine :). So, I'm moving over to Germany with the start of March, will take about 2 weeks I think to find a good house and order a nets, but fret not - I'll keep you notified from work ;).

Yes, Ekaiyo isn't abandoned.

Well, that's about it - I'm off to be slap happy :DDDDDDD.

Announcement - ManTis & moomoo
Hello everybody,

As you probably noticed, for last couple of weeks, or even months (since GDC London) project has been pretty quiet, well... dead.
It's time to face it - Ekaiyo in the form that was developed cannot exist. People broke off from the project: they started appearing less frequently or even disappeared totally. Yes, it was mainly my (ManTis) fault. I required lots from everybody, but when I had faced real life, I couldn't keep up, everything was always 'soon to be done'. I made couple mistakes with the project: I didn't plan sensibly, I wasn't overseeing everything, I didn't have any real schedule, lack of time due to trying to get that job that was supposed to actually keep Ekaiyo running, and most of all - when started the project, I had not even close to enough experience to make a working MMORPG. This all said, the Ekaiyo as we know it has come to an end. There was no other option, even though we gave it our best.

I haven't seen JB in days, Wishy is mostly idling, Theo jumps in and out only once in a while. Only other person apart from me still going online every day to talk about game development is moomoo. We had very long talk and decided that it's time to face the truth. We cannot keep updating you with 'wait just a sec, hold on', because eventually both you and us will become tired of this. In no way we can resume working on Ekaiyo sooner than February next year (after my interview with Germans). So - even though this is one of the hardest decisions I made in life, the project is on indefinite hold.

Keep in mind that it's only our decision, and we did NOT receive any pressure from Nintendo.

However, there are few more things that you might want to know.

First - me and moomoo started z00t Theater and we aren't going to give up on it. Even if it's back to us two, we'll work on games. My!Planet 3 is being developed every night now, I sleep ~4 hours/day, reading books about advanced topics and learning more and more about programming. We want to do this game completely, from beginning to end, and have it fully polished before starting on anything else again. We need something that we lack now - certainty that we can start and finish a project we aim at.

Second is that if M!P3 is finished, it may be the time that we decide we gained enough momentum to resume working on MMORPG. Cause we aren't giving up on Ekaiyo, not now, not ever. We gained lots of experience through these two years, and we did quite a lot of good work. If we will be confident that we fully understand what we're undertaking, we'll do it. We won't 'try making mmorpg' again. There is no try, to quote certain small, green-skinned smart guy. We still have got the models, code, and ideas you and we had for this game, and we'll certainly work with them when we'll return. I won't lie to you, we might resume working on Ekaiyo in February, but we might as well resume it in two years, and you have to understand that. We certainly won't jump into it with such ease, and we understand if you won't be enthusiastic anymore, but that's how things will go.

We'd like to thank you for all the energy you spent on this project and sharing our dreams. We'd also like to apologize that we couldn't give you the final project just yet, it's truly devastating to feel that we failed such awesome community. Maybe one day, even if you won't be frequenting our sites anymore, you'll see somebody talking about 'pokemon mmorpg'. Check it out. Maybe it isn't us, but if it is, maybe we have already released some playable version.

1) I am going for the final interview to Germany in mid January! \o\ /o/
My demo wasn't incredible, but it was enough to make them interested in me. If I'll manage, I'll become developer for ... DS, PSP and maybe Wii. z00000000000000t!

2) You prolly are wondering why I don't post here as often as I used to. Well, I need to code as much things before the interview as possible. Also, as this blog is only for text updates (and models by our gfx crew), I started my own little blog with screenshots of what I do. Keep in mind that it's not Ekaiyo blog, but journal of all my coding activities, so you might be bored by it, if you are waiting for news ONLY about pokemon-related stuff. If you still want to see it, go here, be warned however that it contains explicit lyrics and I'm not very user-friendly over there ;).

Give me fuel, give me fire - ManTis
Hi peeps! Sorry for so long not updating, but I had serious troubles with my comp (let's just say that I'm going to make access to it for my gf more restrictive from now on ;)). Anyways, I was going through couple mails I got last week - I got one from the company I was applying at, saying that they are still interested in seeing my works. Too bad it was week ago :\. Oh well, I'll have to apply somewhere else. And excuse for taking their time :|. Yes, I just love it...

In different news, the z00ttheater [at] gmail [dot] com is open again (well, mooms and jb could reply to it, but it's open for any new enquiries to me).

As always we're developing new features for Ekaiyo, and try to wrap it in smaller game. Well, this time it is My!Planet 3. It'll be a multiplayer oriented game, about fights on surface of desolate planet (think Star Wars battle of Hoth). We're actually thinking about releasing this game as nagware or something :). Who wanna see cool ship model made for this game (with different skins)? Well I know you all do :D.

Hmmm... Still no reply from the company I sent the demo game. If I won't receive anything, I'll send them a mail asking about what's happening. The suspense is killing me...

I think it doesn't hurt if I'll tell that company is based in Germany, and so I'd move out of UK (if I were to get the job).

Oh well, keep fingers crossed all of you!
